AUBURN – Residents are invited to join city officials, police and firefighters, school employees, businesspeople and environmentalists for a special cleanup of the community Saturday.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Hasty Memorial Armory in Pettengill Park and go until about noon. Participants will be given bags, safety vests and gloves, and assigned to collect trash in various areas throughout the city. They will concentrate on parks, roadsides and Androscoggin River banks. Other groups will focus on cleaning up graffiti.

At noon, volunteers will be invited back to the armory for a pizza lunch.

The event was created by members of the city’s Waste Management Advisory Committee, and is working in conjunction with L/A Trails, the Auburn Land Lab, the city firefighters’ union, police, the Recreation Department, schools, Great Falls TV, Keller Williams Realty and Key Bank.

A rain date is scheduled for April 26. For more information, contact Dom Casavant at 786-7238, or Ed Desgrosseilliers at 777-3125.
