Museum L-A has received funding to sponsor third-grade field trips with focused learning activities this spring and next fall for Lewiston students. This program will pay for bus transportation to the museum, located in the Bates Mill Complex at 35 Canal St., and will cover Museum L-A program fees.
The funding will provide students an extension of classroom learning in the study of their community, which is part of the third-grade social studies curriculum.
One of the goals of Museum L-A is to connect the younger generation with the rich cultural heritage and industrial history of the cities. The museum chronicles the history of work, industry and community, as well as the workers’ stories of living and working in Lewiston-Auburn. Many students don’t realize that Lewiston and Auburn were widely known for many years for their production of textiles, bricks, and boots and shoes.
