WATERVILLE – The Bates men’s lacrosse team staged a come-from-behind win in the last game of the season with a 9-8 victory over Colby.
After falling behind 3-2 in the first quarter, the Mules (8-6) scored six goals in the second quarter to take an 8-4 halftime lead.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Tyler Moore scored 32 seconds into the fourth to get the Bobcats’ (4-9) offense activated. Les Wade scored with 12:36 left to shorten the margin to within a pair of tallies.
Moore scored again with 7:45 to play, and Evan Bagley tied the game at 8-8 with 4:25 to play. Wade had assists on both goals.
David Barrett got the game-winning goal with just 57 seconds remaining off a pass from Bagley.
Baseball
Bowdoin 5, Bates 3
LEWISTON – Bowdoin came back from a 3-0 deficit with four runs in the sixth inning and registered a 5-3 victory over Bates.
The Bobcats (8-17) got on the board in the first inning when Tom Beaton led off with a walk, advanced to third on a passed ball and an infield out, and scored on Chris Burke’s RBI groundout. Burke struck again in the third, hitting a two-out, two-run double that scored Beaton and Dave Farrell to make it 3-0.
The Polar Bears (18-15) came back with a four-run sixth on five hits, including an RBI single by Joe Berte, an RBI double by Brett Gorman, and a two-run triple by Jason Koperniak.
Softball
Trinity 9, Bates 4
LEWISTON – Trinity roared back for a 9-4 victory over Bates to keep its hopes alive for a spot in the NESCAC playoffs.
The Bantams (13-13) exploded for nine runs on 12 hits in the sixth inning after being held scoreless through the first five inings by Bates starter Kristen Finn.
The Bobcats (8-12) went ahead 2-0 in the third, loading the bases with one out for Katherine Buckley’s hit by pitch and Leah Citrins sacrifice fly.
Women’s lacrosse
Colby 18, Bates 12
LEWISTON – Third-ranked Colby broke away from a one-run deficit with seven straight goals in the first half en route to an 18-12 victory over Bates.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats (8-7) earned the sixth seed in the NESCAC playoffs.
Becky Julian scored four goals for the Mules (13-1) and Claire Donegan added two goals and five assists.
Joan O’Neill led Bates with three goals and one assist, while Caroline Thomas also tallied three goals. Briana Gross scored twice, and Morgan Maciewicz, Molly Radis and Abby Saucier each had one goal and one assist.
Mara Krueger made nine saves in goal for Bates.
