TURNER – Kendra Moreau hit a two-run double in the first inning and a pair of Brunswick pitchers scattered seven hits in a 7-2 softball victory over Leavitt.
Moreau’s double highlighted a three-run outburst in the first inning. The Dragons (1-1) added single runs in four of the next five innings to pull away.
Brittani Nelson had a pair of RBI singles for Leavitt (1-1) in the first and third innings. Kasara Varney also hit a double for the Hornets. Estella Jacobs and Emily Hartzell had a pair of hits for the Dragons.
Oak Hill 6, MCI 3
PITTSFIELD – Catcher Becca Roberts went 2-for-4 – which included a double – and drove in a pair of runs to lead Oak Hill to a 6-3 win over MCI in the teams’ season opener Friday.
Lauren Hall earned the win for the Raiders (1-0) with a complete-game, seven-strikeout performance, and Marrissa Caskin also chipped in with a pair of hits for Oak Hill.
Allie Sinclair and Kristy Huff combined to allow seven hits in the loss for MCI (0-1), which was led offensively by Lydia Fortin with a pair of base hits.
Gray-NG 5, Wells 0
WELLS – Laura Getchell fired a two-hitter and struck out 15 batters to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 5-0 victory over Wells.
The Patriots (2-0) scored once in the fourth before putting the game away with four runs in the sixth. Kassie Wilson drove in one run with a triple and Brittany Adell and Natalie Tombarelli both had RBI singles.
Abby Ryan had three singles for Gray-New Gloucester.
Wells (1-1) threated to score in the fifth, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Getchell fanned the next two hitters.
Oxford Hills 9, Mt. Ararat 2
TOPSHAM – Mariah Martin knocked in the go-ahead run in the second inning with a single to lift Oxford Hills to a 9-2 triumph over Mt. Ararat in softball action Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning. But, Frankie Severance roped a triple to plate a pair of runs for the Vikings (2-0). And, Martin knocked in Severance to take the lead for good.
Miranda Rierdeam had the only extra-base hit for Mt. Ararat with a triple.
Megan Gauger earned the mound win for Oxford Hills, giving up only two hits in the complete-game effort.
