AUGUSTA (AP) – A Maine legislative committee’s majority is embracing a one-time tax holiday next fall.

As of Friday, eight of the 13 members of the Taxation Committee had signed on to the bill, and one against.

The bill provides an exemption from the state sales tax for all items sold on Columbus Day weekend. As amended, it limits the tax holiday to one year only.

The bill also sets out exemptions to the sales tax holiday weekend, and requires a report on sales tax losses as well as revenue raised from personal and corporate income taxes as a result of the sales tax holiday weekend.
