AUBURN – Authorities in Auburn are investigating what led to a Sunday night fight that sent one man to the hospital with head and face injuries.
Auburn police Lt. Timothy Cougle said the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the area of the intersection of Ninth and Patton streets in New Auburn. The victim, whose name was not released, was allegedly assaulted with a lead pipe.
The man was transported to Central Maine Medical Center. As of late Sunday night, Cougle said that officers were still waiting to interview the victim, who was in surgery.
Cougle said that the incident was initially reported as several males fighting in the street. At least four witnesses were interviewed at the scene, but had conflicting stories about what happened.
