PORTLAND (AP) – The Maine attorney general’s office and Portland police are investigating a fatal police shooting.

The man who was killed was tentatively identified as a 26-year-old Sudanese male from Portland.

Police said officers were investigating a Saturday night 911 call that reported a suspicious man who appeared intoxicated and had a handgun he was reportedly showing to a passer-by.

Police said when officers arrived they found several men and one, whose clothing fit a description of the suspect, went onto a porch.

Police said officers pointed firearms and that the suspect reached into his waistband and brandished a handgun.

Officers Benjamin Roper and Joshua Wiseman fired at the man, killing him, authorities said.

Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
