Marines to meet

LEWISTON – The Central Maine Detachment, Marine Corps League, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St.

Commandant Richard McGuinness will discuss activities for May. He requests that all members be present as more details will be given on the color guard being formed. Wellness fair

LISBON – The third annual Wellness Fair, in association with the Lisbon Community School Parent Group Family Fitness Walk, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the school.

There will be a blood pressure clinic, demonstrations and healthy snacks as well as door prizes. The event is free and open to the community. For more information, contact Linda Cummings or Jim Damsgaard at 353-6711.

Root Cellar meal

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Root Cellar has expanded its base of programs for neighborhood residents.

The first official community dinner was held on April 16. Area residents will be able to sit in the Community Center and engage one another as well as Root Cellar advocates while they have a warm meal.

Community dinners will be held at 6 p.m. every Thursday at the Root Cellar, 89 Birch St. Those interested in donating or serving at the dinners should call at 782-3659.

Widows group

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Area Widows Fellowship will meet on Monday, May 4, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, School Street, for fellowship at 11:30 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch. All interested widows are invited.

Cemetery meeting

GREENE – The annual meeting of the Valley Cemetery Association will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 4, at the home of John Fogg.

Lot owners are welcome to attend and are reminded that old baskets and Christmas arrangements should be removed from lots to facilitate spring cleanup.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on April 21 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Nancy Farmer and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Sue Kaluzynski and Helen Little; fourth, Nancy Lindgren and Luke Merry.

Flight B winners were: first, Sue Kaluzynski and Helen Little; second, Roger Labbe and Larry Fortier. Another game will be played on Tuesday, April 28, at the center.

The club also met at Schooner Estates in Auburn on April 22. Winners in Flight A were: first, Anna Vitiello and Lucille Theriault; second, Mike and Pat Quinn; third, Les Buzzell and John Hackett; fourth, Misha Tomic and Rosemary Goodwin.

Another game wll be played on Wednesday, April 29, at Schooner Estates. For more information and/or a partner, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431. A partner is guaranteed.

Exchange students

RICHMOND – ASSE International Student Exchange is accepting applications from host families for the 2009-10 academic year. Student come from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Students are screened, insured, speak English and come with their own spending money. They arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year.

Host families provide room, board and guidance. Each student expects to bear his or her share of the household responsibilities as well as be included in normal family activities.
