EXETER, N.H. – Lois McGee Gutmann passed away peacefully in her sleep in her RiverWoods home on April 24.

The daughter of Fred R. and Ora B. McGee, she was born in Lewiston on Aug. 29, 1933. After her 1951 graduation from Edward Little High School in Auburn, she worked in Lewiston, becoming secretary to the president of the First Manufacturers National Bank.

After her marriage to Frank T. Gutmann in 1965, she moved to Exeter where, in addition to raising their children, Timothy, deceased in 2007, and Cynthia, she always had a helping hand for neighbors.

She volunteered for many hours at the Exeter elementary schools, the Phillips Exeter Academy Child Care Center and Seacoast Hospice. She was one of the founding trustees of the lifecare community: RiverWoods at Exeter and served as clerk and treasurer of the board.

She enjoyed studying and photographing nature, reading, cross-country skiing, choral singing, traveling with her husband and spending time with her many friends.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Cynthia and her husband, Keith Morgan and grandchildren, Sarah and Katie Morgan, all of Auburn; her sister, Carole Merrifield and her husband, John, of Lexington, Mass.; and her brother-in-law, James Gutmann and his wife, Peggy, of Middletown, Conn.
