Augusta — Today the Maine Senate voted today to immediately ban smoking at state park beaches.
The bill, sponsored by Senator John Nutting of Leeds, would ban smoking on state beaches, as well as common areas at state parks or historic sites. It would apply to areas within 20feet of beaches, playgrounds, snack bars, group picnic shelters, enclosed areas and public restrooms.
“This law will help reduce the public’s exposure to second hand smoke, and make everyone’s beach experience more enjoyable,” Nutting said.
