Tuesday’s temperatures rose to 92 degrees in Portland and 91 in the Lewiston-Auburn area, breaking not only the daily record, but the monthly record. It’s the earliest that temperatures reached 90, according to Charlie Lopresti, WGME 13’s chief meteorologist.
The previous record high for the date in Portland was 89 degrees set in 1874. The average high for this time of year is 57 degrees, Lopresti said.
Scattered rain throughout the night is expected to drop temperatures 50 degrees.
“It’s still pretty nice,” Lopresti said. “I’m forecasting mid-60s for the Portland and Lewiston-Auburn areas tomorrow.”
On May 11, 1945, the Portland area received 4 inches of snow.
