AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A 36-year-old Benton woman faces sentencing after admitting she stole nearly $28,000 from a nonprofit agency where she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager.

Holly Strout pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to embezzling the money from Central Maine Growth Council in Waterville.

The Kennebec Journal says court documents show if Strout pays back all the money in the months ahead, the recommended sentence would be 30 days in jail. Strout paid $15,000 in restitution on Tuesday after her guilty plea.
