‘Bugsy Malone Jr. at Schoolhouse Arts Center’
SEBAGO LAKE – The Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake will present “Bugsy Malone Junior,” May 8 through 10. This youth performance is directed by Keith Halliburton with a cast of youngsters who play Prohibition-era mobsters in this tongue-in-cheek tribute to the 1920s gangster flick.
This popular pint-sized, pin-striped classic leaps off the silver screen and onto the stage. Like the film, this wild and wacky musical includes a child’s dream come true: a classic pie fight fought with “splurge blasters” which spew silly string instead of pies. The catchy, swinging score is by the composer of “The Muppet Movie.”
The cast of Bugsy Malone Junior includes 20 youth from the ages 8 to 14 from seven southern Maine communities. They have been working with Halliburton and music director Mary Bastoni since January to rehearse and perform this entertaining musical. The cast includes Meaghan McGovern from Buxton, Kealan Neal-Farr from Cornish, Elsa Alexandrin, GraceAnn Burns, and Megan Caruso from Gorham, Devin Adams and Monica Libby from Limerick, David Hegarty, Ben Plummer, and Nate Plummer from Limington, Jennifer Christensen, Erik Christensen, Nate Dorr, Adam Goodwin, Chet Komulainen, Tom Komulainen, Angelica Phipps, and Christine Toy from Standish, and Justin and Naomi DiBiase from Windham.
Performances of Bugsy Malone Junior are at the Schoolhouse Arts Center on Route 114, just north of the intersection of Routes 114 and 35, in Sebago Lake Village, at 7 p.m. on May 8, at 4:30 and 7 p.m., May 9 and 2 p.m., May 10. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Call 642-3743 for reservations.
