TOPSHAM – It took a pair of grand slams by Alex Wong and Makae Hyde, and Conroy LeBlond’s RBI double to allow Lewiston to escape with a 10-9 victory over a stubborn Mt. Abram in a baseball game Wednesday.
The game was tied 9-9 going into the top of the seventh inning. Wong got on base after being hit by a pitch and then LeBlond hit his game-tying double. Joe Sullivan came into to run for LeBlond, who was still at second base. Sullivan went on to score on a throwing error.
Scott Ouellette got the win on the mound for Lewiston (2-2) and Sullivan earned the save.
Mt. Abram 13, Jay 3
JAY – Dylan Tisor sparked a seven-run sixth inning for Mt. Abram, as they raced away to a 13-3 victory over Jay in MVC baseball action Wednesday.
Tisor finished with three hits and two RBIs for the Roadrunners (1-2), while Greg Dexter, Mike Bonney and Mark Wahl combined for six hits and two RBIs. John Smith picked up the mound win after five innings of work.
Grant Richards led the Tigers (1-2) with a pair of hits, while Kyle DeMillo was tagged with the loss.
Mountain Valley 14, Telstar 2
BETHEL – Brady Fergola scattered two hits and drew ample run support as Mountain Valley powered to a 14-2 rout over Telstar in another MVC baseball tilt Wednesday.
Fergola also helped the Falcons (2-0) at the plate, finishing the day with three hits and one RBI. Garrett McPherson also contributed with two hits and one RBI.
The Rebels (1-1) managed one run in the first two frames but were overwhelmed from the start. Ben Field was saddled with the loss in a complete-game effort.
Bangor 9, Mt. Blue 3
FARMINGTON – Jordan Clark blasted out a three-run homer in the second inning to lead the offensive attack as Bangor defeated Mt. Blue 9-3 in more local baseball action.
Thanks in part to a slew of singles, a walk, and an error, Bangor (4-0) broke open its 5-3 lead to the eventual 9-3 lead in the ninth inning. Devin Lyshon finished the contest with two doubles and a run-scoring base hit, while Chad Kelley recorded two singles and an RBI.
Devin Zamboni and Shane Smith each smacked doubles for the Mt. Blue (1-3) effort.
Livermore Falls 8, Carrabec 2
NORTH ANSON – Chandler White scattered two hits and received adequate run support as Livermore Falls pulled away to a 8-2 win over Carrabec.
Josh Tainter and Sean Whiting led the Andies (3-0), who led 4-0 after the first frame. White and his three relievers combined for 14 strikeouts.
The Cobras (0-2) prevented a shutout when they plated two runs in the seventh inning.
Dirigo 8, Lisbon 4
DIXFIELD – James Moulton single-handedly broke a 4-4 tie to propel Dirigo to an 8-4 win over Lisbon in an MVC baseball matchup.
Moulton smacked a bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning to give Dirigo the 7-4 lead, before stealing home to push it to the eventual game winning 8-4.
He ended the day 3-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Eric Bolduc came in to earn the save in the seventh, striking out two batters.
Oak Hill 8, Medomak Valley 7
WALDOBORO – Brett Turcotte made a couple of outstanding catches for Oak Hill as they hung on to a narrow 8-7 win over Medomak Valley Wednesday.
The Raiders (3-0) jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in the first frame. Zach Linnett, starting pitcher Cody Plourde and Nate Jillson all had two hits for Oak Hill. Plourde earned his first win of 2009 after four innings of work.
Dale Winchenbach went the distance for Medomak Valley (2-1) and suffered the loss.
Georges Valley 15, Monmouth 12
THOMASTON – Jeremy Ashlock belted a three-run triple in the seventh inning to lift Georges Valley to a 15-12 victory over Monmouth.
Dylan Maloney led the Buccaneers (1-1) with two hits and three RBIs, while Matt Shields and Bryant Matthews added two hits each.
The Mustangs (0-2) were paced by Derek Gray with three hits, while Parker Fernald and Mike Lindholm each belted two.
Bridgton 3, Hebron 1
BRIDGTON – Bridgton Academy erupted for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull off a 3-1 victory over Hebron in baseball action Wednesday.
Hebron stepped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Bridgton responded by knotting it up at 1-1 in the fourth, then took the lead for good with a solid fifth frame.
Ian Canty went four innings on the hill for Hebron, with seven strikeouts and one run allowed.
Brian MacDonald pitched the final two innings with just one hit allowed. Canty finished with three hits, while Kenny Pia belted two.
Lacrosse
Messalonskee 11, Edward Little 4
OAKLAND – Cody Zigenfus notched four goals and Chris Pelletier chipped in with three as Messalonskee beat Edward Little 11-4 in boys lacrosse action.
Nate DelGuidice, Brett Glasheen, Jacob Erskine, and Cameron Douglas rounded out the offensive effort for Messalonskee.
EL’s Tim Brodsky tallied a pair of goals, while Zack Bennett and Shawn Keene each had a goal a piece in the effort.
