Board: Sabattus Board of Selectmen
Met: Tuesday night
Vehicles aplenty
Issue: While responding to a report of a burglary last week, an officer lost control of his cruiser. He was OK but the car was totaled.
The scoop: Selectmen approved buying a new 2009 Ford Crown Victoria for up to $22,833 once the insurance money comes in.
Issue: In the meantime, police Chief Thomas Fales is looking to spend money from a justice grant and the town office is looking to retire an aging former police car that office staff use for town business such as driving to conferences.
Up next: Selectmen approved of the chief using the grant and money from a cruiser account to buy a new 2009 Ford truck for $31,522. That truck will replace an old Police Department Jeep, which will in turn go to office staff.
10-4
Issue: Whenever the town lost power, police and fire radio systems couldn’t communicate with each other.
The scoop: Sabattus has gotten a Maine Emergency Management Agency grant for $2,389 to buy a generator for the Pleasant Hill radio tower so that won’t happen in the future.
It’s a date
Issue: Meetings for the body that’s creating an emergency plan for the town will resume on May 26.
Issue: Selectmen will take a field trip at 2 p.m. Thursday to Taylor Drive and Wendall Way. Residents have asked that the roads be considered for adoption as town roads. There’s a question as to whether they meet code standards.
Issue: Selectmen approved a proclamation stating that Friday, May 1, is “Silver Star Banner Day.” The designation is to honor “the wounded and ill soldiers of Sabattus.”
