LEWISTON – Hazel P. Sawyer, 83, a former resident of Lisbon, died late Tuesday, April 28, after a long illness, with her loving family by her side, at Russell Park Manor, where she had resided since 2002.

She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Lisbon Falls, the daughter of William and Ina Pitcher Clark. She attended school in Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon High School. On Nov. 30, 1945, in Lisbon, she and Herbert E. Sawyer were married.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother; worked in the Worumbo Mill in Lisbon and also Jay Brush in Brunswick, retiring in 1980.

She was very musical; she played the piano at the Lisbon Free Baptist Church, as well as Senior Citizen meetings and other social events. She was a member of the Rebekah’s in Lisbon, belonged to the Lisbon, Durham and Brunswick Senior Citizens and the Lisbon Police Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert of Lewiston; a daughter, Carol Ridley and her husband, Eugene, of Greene; a son, William Sawyer and his wife, Beverly, of Bowdoin; two sisters, Mildred Allen and her husband, Harold, and Margaret Reynolds and her husband, George, all of Topsham; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
