LEWISTON – Police followed a moose through the downtown Wednesday morning before the animal retreated to the area behind the high school and fled into the woods.
The moose was first spotted standing near the corner of Pine and Webster streets at about 10:30 a.m. It went running down Walnut Street where police began to pursue it in cruisers.
After cutting through yards and side streets, the animal bounded up into the woods near the high school on East Avenue. Police called for help from the Maine Warden Service, but apparently, the moose had made its way away from the downtown and into deeper woods.
