NORTHFIELD (AP) – A regional airport proposal has selectmen in Northfield, Maine, outraged.

They say they can’t believe their town has been picked as the top location. Selectmen said they were not included during the review, even though a consultant’s report suggests they were.

Machias Town Manager Betsy Fitzgerald, who led the site review, told the Bangor Daily News that for two years, she encouraged Northfield to be part of the review, but that as far as she knew no one from the town ever showed up.

Northfield Selectman Richard Lamasney says he attended committee meetings when Jonesboro was being considered as the preferred site, but not since the town fell out of favor. He said selectmen worry an airport would hurt Northfield’s quality of life.
