PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) — State police say a 17-year-old Limestone boy has made his initial court appearance to face a manslaughter charge in the death of his 3-month-old daughter.

Nicklas Jones was in court in Presque Isle on Monday. He’s charged in the death of Joselyn Jones, who died April 27 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor from injuries she received four days earlier. State police say the infant died from blunt force trauma to the head and that her father threw the baby into her crib to stop her from crying.

Jones was arrested Friday night and spent the weekend at the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston.

The baby was born Jan. 16 and her graveside service took place Monday in Etna.

The death was Maine’s seventh homicide of the year.
