SHREWSBURY, Mass. (AP) – Massachusetts authorities are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man who was pulled unconscious from Lake Quinsigamond between Worcester and Shrewsbury.

State police say Christopher Cote of Shrewsbury was found unresponsive at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday near a capsized canoe about 150 yards from shore. They say he was pronounced dead a short time later at the University of Massachusetts Hospital in Worcester.

The chief medical examiner’s office will be performing an autopsy to try to determine how Cote died. State police, Shrewsbury police and state environmental police are investigating.
