HARTFORD – Katha Lee Verge died in her home after an illness, with her loving husband by her side on May 5.

She was born on Sept. 17, 1958, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Margaret Jewett Doughty.

She met her husband, Ike Verge, at the age of 10, where they became instant friends, finally marrying on Oct. 19, 1974. In the fall of 1977, she packed up her family and moved to Maine, where she raised her three children that she cherished wholeheartedly.

She worked many small jobs, but her favorite was working at the small town store called the East Sumner Trading Post and the Oxford Telephone Co. She was a passionate person and it showed through in her crafts, cake decorating, drawing and playing with her grandchildren. She became active in the church after weeks of sewing costumes for the living nativity that her daughter and grandchildren participated in.

She is survived by her husband, Ike Verge of Hartford; son, Michael Verge and fiancée, Lisa Chagnon, of Burlington, Vt.; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Robin Verge and their dog Rocky (her grandbaby) of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Chris Bragg and their three children, Audrey, Abby and Maggie Bragg; and one great-granddaughter, Hailey Dorriety.

She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Doughty; and her trusted companion, her dog, “Dusty.”
