SALEM – Aaron McGuiness scattered two hits in seven innings of work and drew ample run support as Mt. Abram upset Livermore Falls 7-1 in a MVC baseball matchup Wednesday.
Josh Smith led the Roadrunners (3-3) with three hits and one RBI, while Dylan Tisor tallied two hits and one RBI. Hank Poulin also contributed with a suicide squeeze play in the sixth that scored two runs.
Josh Tainter belted a double for the Andies (5-1) in their first loss of 2009. Chandler White was tagged with the loss after four innings.
York 3, Gray-New Gloucester 0
GRAY – Jimmy Kennedy scattered five hits and struck out nine in seven innings and drew adequate run support as York coasted to a 3-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in WMC baseball action Wednesday.
Owen Chaplin led the Wildcats (4-1) with two hits, including a double. York jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before adding two insurance runs in the fourth.
Joe Billings went the distance for Gray-New Gloucester (3-5) and took his second loss of 2009.
Rangeley 9, Buckfield 1
BUCKFIELD – Pat Anthony had an impressive performance both on the mound and behind the plate, fanning nine batters to earn the win and smacking a triple to lead Rangeley to a 9-1 win over Buckfield.
Eric White had a pair of base hits for the Lakers’ win as well.
The Bucks had two hits in the contest, a triple by Tony Fortier and a single by Isaac Smith.
Lisbon 20, Carrabec 1
LISBON – The Lisbon baseball squad erupted for 10 runs in the second inning and cruised home to a 20-1 rout over Carrabec in another MVC matchup Wednesday.
Marcus Bubar went 4-for-4 for the Greyhounds (4-1) with three RBIs, while Scott Eck and Frank Angelico combined for four hits and five RBIs. Nick Jones hurled five innings of no-hit baseball to notch the shutout.
The Cobras (0-5) utilized five different pitchers trying to shut down the relentless offensive attack by Lisbon.
Dirigo 11, Madison 1
DIXFIELD – Aaron Fenstermacher threw an efficient game, tossing 59 pitches which included 43 strikes and 16 balls to lead Dirigo to an 11-1 victory over Madison in more local baseball action.
Tyler Chiasson and Tyler Gates each went 3-3 on the day, and each scored three runs a piece, while James Moulton had two singles and three RBI’s. Keith Langervin added an RBI double to the Bulldogs (4-2) win as well.
Ezra Gourley hit a double and would score Madison’s (0-6) lone run after Kyle Costigan smacked a base hit to score him in the second inning.
Winthrop 5, Georges Valley 4
THOMASTON – Easton Morang and Ryan Castonguay each had two base hits and recorded an RBI a piece as Winthrop edged past Georges Valley 5-4 in an MVC baseball match-up held Wednesday.
The contest ended on a double-play after a a dropped line drive to third-base was picked up and thrown to home to force the first out, and then tossed to second to end the game in Winthrop’s favor. Jordan Conant also had two singles in the win.
Hebron 17, Gould 1
HEBRON – Nate Dupere had four RBI’s on two hits as Hebron dominated over Gould Acdemy 17-1 in five innings in more baseball action.
Corey Lescault had three hits, including a double, and three RBI’s on the day, while Taf Fogarty and Alex Siwila-Sackman each contributed with two hits a piece. Ben Blais earned the win, striking out six batters in the process.
Telstar 7, Jay 5
JAY – Pitcher Dan Whitney recorded the win and helped his own cause with four hits as Telstar posted a 7-5 win over Jay Wednesday.
James Kimball hit an RBI double in the first inning to ignite the Rebels (2-2) offense.
Jake Lord hit an RBI double and a base hit, while Kyle Storer had a double and a single as well for the Tigers (1-5) losing cause.
Lacrosse
Hebron 8, Hyde 3
BATH – Malik Garvin and Lonnie Taylor each netted three goals a piece to lead Hebron to an 8-3 win over Hyde in boys’ lacross action Wednesday.
Chris Gacsy and Jordan Wade rounded out the offensive effort. Kyle Cordaro made 18 saves in net.
For Hyde, Bryan Kemp tallied a pair of goals and Adam Debowski added one.
