AUBURN – Senior students from Edward Little, Leavitt Area and Lewiston high schools were honored by the Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, at the April meeting.
The ceremony to honor the students with Good Citizen and Good Citizenship awards, pins and medals took place at the Auburn Public Library. Parents, family members and teachers were present.
The students were chosen by fellow students and faculty for being good citizens of their schools and community. The Good Citizen Award is given through the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Good Citizenship Medal is given by the local chapter through the National Defense Committee of the DAR.
The requirements for both are dependability, leadership, service and patriotism.
All accredited high schools are eligible to nominate seniors for the annual awards. They also have a chance to enter for a scholarship.
Chapter Regent Carol MacNeill opened the meeting, welcomed the guests and turned the proceedings over to Mary Jane Densmore, good citizen chairwoman, who presented the awards.
Receiving Good Citizens certificates and pins were: Leavitt Area High School, Katelyn Kirk, daughter of Douglas and Brenda Kirk of Leeds.
Lewiston High School, Stephanie Gagne, daughter of Michael and Patricia Gagne of Lewiston.
Receiving Good Citizenship Medals were: Edward Little High School, Gregory St. Denis, son of Gerard and Kelly St. Denis of Auburn.
Leavitt Area High School, Drake McBreairty, son of Jerry and Carol McBreairty of Turner.
A program on early colonial culture was presented by local historian Charles Anthony of Durham. Anthony, dressed in period clothes that he designed and made, included the students and parents in the program.
Refreshments were served by MacNeill with the assistance of Beverly Robbins and other members of the chapter.
