FARMINGTON – A community meeting to brainstorm ideas for actions to take in observance of International Day for Climate Action will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in the North Dining Hall-C of Olsen Student Center.
The University of Maine at Farmington Sustainable Campus Coalition is hosting the meeting and wants community members of all ages to talk about ideas, said Valerie Huebner, coalition member.
Communities around the world will be staging actions on Oct. 24, including bike rides, hikes, concerts, festivals, tree plantings, art works and other activities to raise public awareness of the growing threat of climate change.
Sponsored by the international environmental organization 350.org, which was co-founded by environmentalist Bill McKibben, the activities are designed to create awareness that carbon in the atmosphere should not exceed 350 parts per million so the planet remains suited to the well-being of the life currently on earth.
“We thought it would be really fun to see what we could work on together as a community and college,” Huebner said.
