DERRY, N.H. (AP) – Hospital officials say a 16-year-old Derry, N.H., girl has died after she was injured in a car crash that killed an Atkinson teen.

The crash happened Monday night when 18-year-old Robert Stuart of Salem was killed when the car he was driving slammed into a tree. Police said they believe speed was a factor in the fatal crash.

Melissa Burns, a passenger, was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where she died, the Eagle Tribune reported.

Neither Stuart nor Burns were wearing seat belts.

Stuart, a student at Timberlane Regional High School and Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative, was to graduate next month. A makeshift memorial of potted flowers and a sign was placed at the tree where the crash occurred.
