LEWISTON – William “Tom” Whalen, 66, of Lisbon Road, Sabattus and formerly of California, lost his battle with cancer and has gone home to be with our Lord on May 5, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Hayward, Calif., County of Alameda on Dec. 15, 1942, the son of Thomas William and Edith (Bothwell) Whalen.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1961 to 1964.

He had resided in this area for the last 12 years and worked as a truck driver for many years.

Tom was a kind and caring man and enjoyed NASCAR racing especially Jeff Gordon. He also liked playing bingo at Foxwoods, games on his computer, going to flea markets, making crafts, going camping and spending time at Old Orchard Beach and fishing with his friends D.J., Marc, J.R. and Tyler Cyr.

He was a member of the Eagles Club.

He is survived by his friends; a twin sister; and other relatives.

We would like to thank Dr. Shannon Deschenes who has helped him through his difficult times, Androscoggin Home Care nurse Gabby Roy, doctors and nurses on T-1 at CMMC who cared for Tom in the last week of his life, they were his “ANGELS.” Thank you, Vicky at Pastoral Care for helping Tom with his journey home. A special thank-you to Guy at Dostie Funeral Home for making Tom’s funeral arrangements so much easier.
