RUMFORD – Edna M. Aleck, 83, of Grandview Circle, Mexico, died Thursday, May 7, at Rumford Hospital, Rumford.

She was born in Rumford on Feb. 9, 1926, the daughter of Philip and Jennie (Poirier) Gaudet. She graduated from Mexico High School in 1943.

Edna worked as a waitress at Goodwin’s Restaurant in Rumford, where she made some of her best lifelong friends, the “Goodwin Girls.” She loved spending time with family and friends, especially at her camp on Rangeley Lake. She also loved playing cards and gallivanting.

She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Theresa Church in Mexico.

She was married in Phillips on May 4, 1957, to Alger M. Aleck who died in Rumford on May 5, 1974.

Survivors include daughters, Bonnie Aleck of Rumford, and Brenda Austin and husband, Stephen, of Mexico; a son, Daniel Aleck of Dallas Plantation; daughter-in-law, Noreen Aleck of Mexico; five grandchildren, Wendi Bradbury and husband, Craig, of Duluth, Minn., Jennifer Nunes and husband, Andrew, of Dartmouth, Mass., Alger and Megan Aleck of Mexico, and Kayla Bartlett of Rumford; and four great-grandchildren, Jake and Austin Nunes of Dartmouth, Mass., Peyton Bradbury of Duluth, Minn., and Kelcee Aleck of Mexico.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alger; a son, Dale Aleck; sister, Yvette Breau; and brothers, Lionel and Francis Gaudet.

The family extends its deep gratitude to the Rumford Hospital staff, her doctors, nurses, and care givers that treated her with such special care over the last few years.
