BURLINGTON, N.J. – Dr. Harriet A. Doolittle, VMD, 71, of Pine Hill, N.J., died Jan. 30.

She was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. She helped establish the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps Veterinary Assistant Program and in 1972 became the Veterinary Assistants Program director at Camden County College, N.J., until her retirement in 2001.

She helped found the Oasis Animal Sanctuary in Williamstown, N.J., and served as a board director. She touched all she met with her warm, insightful and humorous disposition. She spent summers at her Tripp Lake cabin, where she entertained her many friends.

She is survived by many students, educators, friends and her beloved golden retriever, “Copper.”
