PORTLAND (AP) – The Holiday Inn by the Bay in downtown Portland, Maine’s largest hotel and convention facility, is under new ownership.

The hotel, which has 239 rooms and 13 function rooms, was purchased Monday by a new company, Lafayette Inn by the Bay Inc., and will become part of the Bangor-based Lafayette Hotels Group.

The hotel was owned by Indiana-based Harper Hotels Inc., which built and opened it in 1973.

Lafayette Hotels said it plans to keep the property in the Holiday Inn system and will rehire all staff in good standing.

including Gus Tillman, who’s been general manager since the hotel opened.

Lafayette Hotels owns and operates 22 hotels in Maine, three in New Hampshire and one in Michigan.
