ELLSWORTH – Seven members of the GFWC/Livermore Falls Women’s Club attended the spring convention of the Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs in Ellsworth on May 7 and 8.

All 28 Maine clubs were invited to the convention. Clubs are recognized for their work throughout the year. Paintings, photographs, poetry and short stories can be submitted for judging. Clubs are allowed to set up tables to sell their crafts to raise money for their charities.

This year the LFWC sold embroidered items, quilted items, candles, breads and breakfast bars for a successful sale.

The club received several awards for projects that had been completed. The club placed second in the scrapbook contest. The scrapbook is a history of all activities taking place during each year and was put together by Muriel Bowerman and Ruth Gammon.

The club received a first-place certificate for the conservation/beautification in the community project led by Co-president Gail Slade.

Certificates were also awarded for excellence in reporting club activities and for adding to the membership.

A certificate of recognition and a monetary prize were given to Claire Tanner for distinguished service in the member short story contest.

The next meeting will be held Thursday, May 28, at the Weathervane Restaurant in Readfield. The speaker will be John Nale, attorney specializing in elder law.

Anyone wishing more information should contact Slade at 897-2158 or Co-president Lucille Lavoie at 897-5106.
