AUGUSTA – Marie Bonnevie, 83, formerly of Jay, died late Wednesday, May 13, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, where she had resided since the summer 2008.

She was born March 5, 1926, in Chisholm, the daughter of Adelard and Diana (Simoneau) Fournier. She received her education in Jay schools and at a convent in Berlin, N.H. In 1948, she married Aurele Bonnevie at St. Rose of Lima Church. He died in 1980.

For some time, she was employed at the post office in Chisholm and was an elementary teacher at the St. Rose of Lima School.

She was devoted to her faith and her family. Her love of children could be readily seen in her devotion to caring for her children and for their families, whenever needed. She was always there to support and nurture others.

A communicant of St. Rose of Lima, Jay, she had served her faith community in a variety of ways: as CCD coordinator, housekeeper, former member of the Ladies of St. Anne and had been named Parishioner of the Year.

Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting, knitting, reading and working on crossword puzzles. She will also be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by two daughters, Anne Soule and her husband, John, of Winslow and Judy St. Pierre and her husband, Raymond, of Jay; six grandchildren, Michael Soule, Karen Willett and her husband, Jamie, Jessica Lindquist and her husband, Matthew, Beth St. Pierre and her fiancé, Todd Arsenault, Katie St. Pierre and Mark St. Pierre and his wife, Erin; three great-grandchildren, Grace St. Pierre and Troy and Trevor Swett; two sisters, Anne Cyr of Livermore Falls and Jill Deane and her husband, Lester, of Jay; two brothers, Adrien “Drig” Fournier and his wife, Rita, of Lewiston and Laurier Fournier and his wife, Jeannette, of Arizona; several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by siblings, Robert, George, Lawrence, Rene, Norman “Lefty,” Larry, Joan Pineau and Rita Bonnevie.
