PORTLAND (AP) – The windstorm that blew through Maine on Thursday helped spark dozens of wildfires.

Maine’s Forest Service says rangers fought about 45 wildfires in central and northern Maine. Most were small and caused by powerlines becoming knocked down by the high winds.

One fire in Indian Purchase Township, west of Millinocket, burned nearly an acre and an outbuilding. Two Maine Forest Service helicopters dropped water on separate fires.

Rangers also cleared fallen trees on remote roads to allow access to camps.
