LEWISTON – A 17-year-old Lewiston boy was charged Sunday morning with aggravated assault after a Saturday night attack that left another man in a medically induced coma.
According to a news release issued by Lewiston Police Sgt. Michael R. Parshall, the teen is alleged to have beaten 30-year-old Troy Haydon so badly that the Lewiston man was rushed to surgery at Central Maine Medical Center.
Police responded to a call at 11:15 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Maple and Knox streets of a man bleeding badly from the face. The man turned out to be Haydon.
Parshall said in his news release that no witnesses came forward at the scene Saturday night, but information was later brought to the attention of investigating police officers.
The teenager was arrested Sunday morning and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.
Parshall declined to release any further information about the incident, saying that the assault was still under investigation.
