100 years ago, 1909


The annual Gentlemen’s Night of the Bates Needle Club was observed Saturday evening at the home of Prof. and Mrs. A. K. Spofford of Wood Street and there were about 35 present. Supper was served at 7 o’clock. After the supper a guessing contest for the men was held. The contest was on the five senses, smelling, tasting, seeing, hearing and feeling. The winner in each division was given an appropriate prize. The evening closed with chorus singing of college songs. Mrs. Spofford and Mrs. A. N. Leonard had charge of the evening which was voted a success in every way.


50 years ago, 1959

Le Montagnard Social Club is sponsoring a May Ball Saturday evening, May 23, at the club rooms. Louis J. Morin has charge of arrangements, and is being assisted by Mrs. Minerva Roy, president of Les Dames Montagnard, Mrs. Bernadette Levesque, Mrs. Leona Kelley and Mrs. Jeannette Rouleau. Entertainment will be provided and Leo Comeau’s orchestra will play for dancing.This is an annual affair and May baskets will be presented.

25 years ago, 1984

Surgical technologists from Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s General Hospital will sponsor an informational booth Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Auburn Mall. In observance of Surgical Technologist Week this week, the technologists will provide information about their little-known profession. They will also display some of the instruments commonly used in an operating room.
The technologists involved in the planning of the information booth activity are members of Chapter 89 of the Association of Surgical Technologists, Maine’s division of the national organization. The technologists will be available for questions at the Community Booth in the Auburn Mall.
