NORTH WATERFORD – Martha Mason Whittemore, 59, of North Waterford, passed away in her home with the love and support of her family on May 17.

She was born in Peterborough, N.H., on Feb. 24, 1950, the daughter of Dr. Mahlon R. and Nancy Mason. She graduated from Peterborough High School in 1969, and two years later received an associate degree in business from Hesser College in Manchester, N.H.

She later moved to Hebron with her family and became a certified nurse’s assistant. She married Brad Whittemore on Sept. 11, 1976, and together they raised two daughters.

She was a beloved caregiver for more than 20 years at Bridgton Health Care Center, where she will live in the memory of many dear friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, good humor and love for life.

In the years past, she filled her days with gardening, bird watching and country cooking. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren. She also enjoyed yard sales with her daughters and many special trips and adventures with her sister-in-law, Debbie. She also cherished riding on the train at Wiscasset Waterville Farmington Railway, where her husband is a brakeman and diesel engineer.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Claire and her husband, Chris Mowatt, of Bridgton and Sherry and her husband, Karl Greenwald, of Portland; three brothers, Nathaniel and his wife, Debbie, Jonathon and his wife, Chris, and David; one sister, Linda; one sister-in-law, Brenda; two grandchildren, Gage and Hannah Mowatt; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Beacon Hospice, Maine Women’s Surgery and Cancer Center, Bridgton Hospital and Maine Medical Center.
