BUCKFIELD – A 24-year-old man was arrested Sunday on charges that he entered a woman’s home and sexually assaulted her.

Dale J. Bennett, of Depot Street, was charged with gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, burglary, aggravated criminal trespass and assault. He remained at the Oxford County Jail on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a police report by Deputy Michael Halacy of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, a 27-year-old woman accused Bennett of entering her home around 2:30 a.m. and sexually assaulting her three times. The woman said Bennett was intoxicated at the time, and that Bennett grabbed her by her hair and threw her to the ground at one point.

Bennett told Halacy that he had consensual sex with the woman. He declined to talk to police after his Miranda rights were read, but said he wanted to take a polygraph examination.

Bennett was originally also charged with obstructing a report of a crime after the woman said she found her phone had been unplugged.

Judge Paul Cote set Bennett’s bail at $10,000 cash or $100,000 worth of real estate after his initial appearance in the South Paris District Court on Tuesday. Bennett must also not use or possess alcohol, drugs or dangerous weapons, and may not have any contact with the woman.
