Molly Ockett DAR honors Good Citizens

PARIS – The Molly Ockett Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Fryeburg-Oxford Hills area, presented three outstanding high school seniors DAR Good Citizen Awards at the annual reception tea on May 3 at the First Congregational Church, South Paris.

Principal Ted Moccia, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, discussed his academic experiences. The event was well attended by students, family, faculty, friends and chapter members.

Award recipients are chosen for outstanding citizenship, honesty, courage, service, leadership and patriotism. They are presented certificates, DAR Good Citizen pins and cards to keep in their wallets.

Winners were: Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, Ronald St. John of Harrison, son of Richard and Melissa St. John; Lake Region High School, Sylvia R. Talbott of Naples, daughter of Marshall and Celia Talbott; and Fryeburg Academy, Susan K. Hannes of Lovell, daughter of Paul and Patricia Hannes.

The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 with a mission to promote historic preservation, patriotism and education. Its members are women, age 18 or older, who have proven lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.

Each year, members volunteer more than 55,000 hours to veteran patients, award more than $150,000 in scholarships and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations exceeding $1 million.
