FARMINGTON – The bleachers at the Little League baseball field at Hippach Field underwent a spring makeover Tuesday just in time for spectators to watch a Cal Ripken league game.

Taking a break from mowing, Recreation Department personnel undertook the makeover by removing the seating planks, using some to replace foot planks and then putting on new pressure-treated planks for seating, said Director Steve Shibles. Four sets of bleachers were redone.

Proceeds from the business advertisement signs surrounding the ball field will pay for the project at an estimated $540, he said. Businesses pay a $100 lease each year for a five-foot-by-eight-foot sign, amounting to $3,200 for a fence field fund, which the department uses to help maintain the recreation area.

This is the second project undertaken this year with that money, Shibles said. The pitcher’s mound on the Little League field was rebuilt to professional standards by Sports Field of Monmouth at a cost of $675, he said.

Last year, the major league field received bleacher replacements, and the mound was rebuilt.
