WEST PARIS – Selectmen late last week scheduled a special town meeting for June 25 to give voters a chance to consider a two-article warrant.

On article deals with an update to the town’s appeals board ordinance.

According to Board of Selectmen Chairman Randy Jones the changes are minor in nature but need to be done as it has been several years since the ordinance has been brought up to date.

“Most of the changes are simple but necessary updates in the verbiage of the ordinance. Other than that the main idea in it remains essentially the same,” he said.

The other article will ask voters if they are willing to accept a used 2001 ambulance from United Health Care Services. If accepted, the vehicle will replace the 1991 van being used as a utility vehicle now by the Fire Department.

A utility van is used to carry equipment that cannot be stored and carried in the fire trucks themselves such as Scott air packs and other safety tools and equipment needed by the firefighters.

The 1991 van is costing too much for maintenance.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the town office on Kingsbury Street.

In other business, the board voted unanimously to approve an application for a liquor license submitted by Paul and Hedy Cornish, owners of the River Restaurant on Route 26.

After reviewing the application, the vote was taken and Selectman Wade Rainey said, “Paul and Hedy have been a credit to the town and their restaurant has also been popular for several years being visited by people from West Paris as well as from surrounding towns.”
