PORTLAND (AP) – Mainers flocked to the beaches as midsummer temperatures arrived a couple months early and Portland enjoyed record heat.
The temperature in Maine’s largest city hit 91 degrees at 2:58 p.m. Thursday, breaking the previous record of 87 degrees set in 1992. The normal high for the date is 65 degrees.
The extreme heat isn’t expected to linger. Friday’s forecast called for a mixture of sunshine and clouds, with highs in the 70s and lower 80s.
