PARIS — Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant was among five candidates nominated for Maine’s open U.S. Marshal posting.

The announcement by U.S. Rep.’s Michael Michaud and Chellie Pingree, both D-Maine, released Friday stated. Gallant’s name was submitted to President Obama along with four others including Randall Liberty, Sheriff of Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department; Noel March, Chief of Police for the University of Maine at Orono; Kathryn Spellacy, Deputy U.S. Marshal, Maine; and David Viles, current U.S. Marshal for Maine.

“All of these Mainers are outstanding candidates for the position and we are happy to pass them along to the President for his consideration,” Michaud and Pingree stated in the joint release.  “We appreciate their willingness to serve and all the work that they have already done in service to their communities and the State of Maine.”
