PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A 27-year-old man is in custody on murder and arson charges in the death of a woman whose body was found in a Portland apartment building that was the scene of a Monday night fire.

Police say Chad Gurney of Portland was arrested Tuesday at a motel in Old Orchard Beach and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday.

Gurney is accused of killing the woman and then setting the fire. Investigators were awaiting autopsy results but said the victim had signs of trauma that were not consistent with a fire death.

The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of relatives.
