SOUTH PARIS – Matti Hjalmari Korhonen, 92, of South Paris, died at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris on Tuesday, May 26.

He was born in West Paris on April 27, 1917, the son of Kusti and Anna (Lehto) Korhonen and was educated in West Paris schools.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946, being discharged as a S/Sgt.

Matti had worked for more than 40 years as a real estate agent and had been married to his wife, Etta Mae (Judkins) Korhonen, for 68 years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of South Paris, the Finnish American Society, VFW and American Legion.

Matti loved horse racing, county fairs and spending time at his camp on McWain Pond.

He is survived by his wife, Etta Korhonen, of South Paris; one daughter, Koriene Mae Low and her husband, Geoffrey, of South Paris; four grandchildren, Robert Korhonen of Portland, Elisha Allman of Lewiston, Geoffrey Ellis Low of Dixfield, and Justin Howard of Portland; and four great-grandchildren, Theo, Aidan, Trevor and Tyler.
