AUGUSTA – Leavitt stormed back from a three-run deficit but fell short in a 4-3 defeat to unbeaten Cony in KVAC softball action Tuesday.
The Hornets (4-10) scored twice in the sixth and had two runners on base in the seventh when Cony recorded the final out to escape with the victory.
Leavitt scored the first run on Tori Zupancic’s RBI double in the third before Cony scored twice in the the third and fourth innings fot a 4-1 advantage. Abbey Randall and Adrie Newton drove home both runs in the sixth on squeeze plays.
Newton had four strikeouts in the tough-luck loss. Mika Wilson and Jasmine Trott shared mound duty for Cony.
Maranacook 3, Oak Hill 0
WALES – Sarah Maxwell fired a two-hitter and struck out 16 batters with no walks to lead unbetaen Maramacook to a 3-0 triumph over Oak Hill.
Heidi Shaw had two hits, including and RBI double for the Black Bears (13-0). Taylor Fillion and Abby Goulet had the two hits for Oak Hill (6-7).
Oak Hill pitcher Lauren Hall struck out six and walked one.
Oxford Hills 19, Lewiston 3
SOUTH PARIS – Oxford Hills piled up 14 runs in the second and third innings and tacked on another five in the fourth, as the Vikings dropped Lewiston with a 19-3 victory in a softball game Tuesday.
The Vikes (11-2) used 12 hits to overpower the Blue Devils.
Breanna Martin smacked a two-run homer for Oxford Hills and Dayna Schultz hammered out three hits. Kristy Jurczak got the win on the mound, striking out six batters and holding the Devils to five hits.
For Lewiston, Carley Denis tripled and singled.
Edward Little 12, Brunswick 4
AUBURN – Edward Little erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning and went on to record a 12-4 victory over Brunswick in late-season KVAC softball action Tuesday.
Alyssa Levesque and Kayla Cummings led the Red Eddies (9-4) with two hits and two RBIs each, while Kim Lawrence belted an RBI double. Megan Hussar also contributed with a pair of hits. Miranda Martin scattered five hits and was credited with the win.
The Dragons (6-8) were paced by Emily Hartzell with two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Mardi Artis pounded out two hits.
