NORWAY – The former Trolley House Restaurant is expected to open in the next several weeks, says owner John Allen of Paris.

The restaurant, which will be known as the Trolley, will feature an outside window for takeout as well as inside seating. The Board of Selectmen has approved a beer and wine license for the establishment, but there will be no bar.

“We figure good food at a decent price, cut down on labor and we can make it work,” Allen told selectmen at their meeting last week.

In February, Allen demolished a large wood-frame building at 239 and 241 Main St. on the corner of Tannery Street to create space for a parking lot. The area is now being paved and will be landscaped with a small garden, he said.

The restaurant will feature two sit-down areas in the front and middle part of the building. Hours have been tentatively set for the summer from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Plans are still being set for the days the restaurant will be open.

Allen said that by having no table service, he will be able to save money. Patrons will simply go to the counter to order their food and wait for their number to be called.

The Trolley Building has been vacant since the last renter, Elise Thurlow of Albany Township, closed her restaurant, The Brick, last year. Previously, Allen operated the Trolley House Restaurant, which shut down in 2006. The building once housed trolleys.
