PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The sister of an 18-year-old woman who was killed in a Portland apartment says she wants the public to know it was no ordinary killing.
Kristen Kosnow told WGME-TV on Wednesday that detectives told her 27-year-old Chad Gurney, who’s charged with murder and arson, choked her sister, cut off her head, and set fire to her body.
Police have tentatively identified the victim as Zoe Sarnacki, a former student at Portland’s Deering High School who was living in South Portland. Her body was found in Gurney’s Cumberland Avenue apartment Monday night after firefighters were called. Gurney entered no plea at his initial court appearance.
Kosnow couldn’t be reached immediately by The Associated Press. Portland Police Lt. Anthony Ward said Thursday police aren’t releasing details.
