BANGOR (AP) – The lawyer for a University of Maine hockey goalie says a former girlfriend brought charges against him to get back at him for leaving her.

Defense lawyer Gary Prolman entered a plea of not guilty to assault this week on behalf of 24-year-old David Wilson of Orono. Prolman told the Bangor Daily News that he’ll be seeking a jury trial. He said the allegations are “completely false.”

Wilson was suspended from the team after the alleged victim accused him of grabbing her by the neck and tugging her when she tried to walk away from an Orono bar.

Wilson, a junior from Ontario, played in 14 games last season, recording 338 saves and posting a goals-against average of 2.82.
