UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) – Here’s what one writer was seeing from her vantage point inside and outside the Gibson Amphitheatre at the MTV Movie Awards.

Just opposite the fan bleachers, folks are practicing cheering for the camera. Early celeb sightings include “Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano and MTV reality star Stephanie Pratt.

Anna Faris gives a big wave to fans on the red carpet but doesn’t stop to chat. Jonah Hill, on the other hand, slaps high-fives with fans.

Whitney Port, formerly of “The Hills,” is ushered to her seat with a drink in each hand. Audrina Patridge needs no escort: She and her drink find their seat near the front just fine.

Two minutes to showtime and they’re testing smoke machines. A men yelling into his microphone is urging guests in the front to stand up and dance during performances.

Robert Pattinson shares a word with “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke before he’s called on stage to present an award. He does his famous hair-grab with his left hand while he shakes fans’ hands with his right, and is moved to a seat close to costar Cam Gigandet just before the two win for best fight.

Shia LaBeouf is ushered through a side door onstage during the first commercial break. Meanwhile, Patridge scoots up the stairs back to the bar area. Earlier, she coyly denied that she’s dating Star Trek star Chris Pine.

Will Ferrell shakes hands with Jon Voight during a commercial break. Hayden Panettiere gets a hug from “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke as she heads up the auditorium stairs. Vanessa Hudgens rushes back to her seat before the commercial break ends.

Kristen Stewart is wearing Chuck Taylor sneakers with her dress.

Paris Hilton skips – literally skips – up the stairs with her Blackberry in one hand and boyfriend Doug Reinhardt’s hand in the other.

After Kings of Leon performs, Lauren Conrad stops by to greet former “The Hills” costar Port. Panettiere walks through the theater with “Heroes” costar Zachary Quinto.

Jim Carrey does a sexy dance with his award before leaving the stage.
