My husband and I attended the parade and unveiling of the 17th stone at Veterans Memorial Park in Lewiston on May 23. To both of us, it was very sobering to see such a low attendance for such an important day.
Are people so busy they can’t set aside two or three hours to attend the ceremony that so many dedicated their time to organize?
We thank those people who did attend.
People should not forget the men and women in uniform, making sacrifices for them each and every day. Most of all, Memorial Day is a day to reflect on all the nation’s fallen heroes, and the ones who have never been found.
Being a veteran myself, I was deeply moved with all that took place that day.
Come on, America. Start showing your support. I guarantee that those who do will be uplifted and have a closer sense of where freedom comes from.
