West Paris ā Avis Marie Hayes, 69, of West Paris, died Tuesday, June 2.
She was born in West Paris on July 17, 1939, the daughter of John W. Farr and Elizabeth Jones Farr. She was educated in West Paris schools and graduated from West Paris High School, class of 1958.
Avis had worked at several jobs in her career including S.D. Warren Paper Mill, Maine National Bank, deputy town clerk for the town of West Paris, a clerk and cook at the West Paris General Store and had volunteered at the Agnes Gray School.
Avis was a people person, enjoying being around others; she also enjoyed sports, hunting, playing solitaire, knitting hats and mittens and especially enjoyed making ceramics. She was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church and the Woodstock-Greenwood Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Duane Hayes of West Paris; two sons, Scot O. Hayes and his wife, Tina, of Greenwood and Austin R. Hayes and his fiancƩe, Jenn Helm, of Great Bear Creek, Minn.; twin daughters, Loanne M. Parr and her husband, Robert IV, of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Joanne M. Yates and her husband, Jeffrey, of Greenwood; one sister, Margaret Marston of Hartford; and six grandchildren, Orin Hayes, Kaleb Hayes, Heather Moore and Kimberly Moore all of Greenwood, and Amanda Parr and Rebecca Parr both of Phillipsburg, N.J.
